HUMAN PERFORMANCE IN MARS CAVE SPACE ANALOG
BIOGENDER PROJECT
https://www.astrolandagency.com
Previous research shows that establishing habitats underground in Martian caves, specifically lava tubes, would efficiently address many of the risks derived from the Martian environment. The lack of a Martian magnetic field will leave the crew at the mercy of cosmic rays and solar radiation, and Mars’ thin atmosphere will not be able to filter the ultra-violet (UV) rays as it happens on Earth. In addition, the extremely low temperatures, impenetrable dust storms, and the absence of liquid water, would be lethal to human beings.
Astroland has a permanent space analogue and habitat in a cave located in Cantabria (Northern Spain). Cantabria is a rocky region of the north of Spain.
Astroland has substantial experience in crew training, mission planning and requirements definition for efficient exploration, as well as technology transfer to fields outside the space sector. Astroland's Alpha Base is located inside the cave and it provides a unique opportunity to explore aspects of individual and social adaptation to isolation and exploration conditions, as well as performance in a simulated manned space mission.
BIOGENDER
BIOGENDER is a research project by an international consortium of institutions including: Neuropsychology and Experimental Psychology Lab. University of Cadiz. Spain (Coordinator). University of Oslo, Norway. Masaryk University, Czech Republic and Bioastronautics and Human Performance Lab at Texas AM University, USA.
BIOGENDER stands for Biological testing and Gender. We want to study different team configurations including all women teams. We will study human performance aspects, psychological, social and emotional aspects and also biomarkers.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS FOR THE NEXT BIOGENDER MISSIONS IN ASTROLAND!
(Participants can submit their own research ideas/ proposals (please contact for details))
" Perhaps the most dangerous Symptom is impairment to cognitive function-we have to be able to perform tasks that require a high degree of concentration and attention to detail at a moment's notice, and in an emergency, which can happen anytime, we need to be able to do those tasks right at the first time. Losing just a fraction of our ability to focus, make calculations, or solve problems could cost our lives"
